EMP Projects Curating and Commisioning Art in the Public Realm

Profile

EMP Projects Company Profile.

EMP Projects is an independent art consultancy, formed in 2010 by Emma M Price. EMP Projects work in brokering curatorial partnership specialising in the planning of small to large-scale creative and cultural developments. EMP Projects work with exceptional artists and creative practitioners to produce both permanent and temporary artworks within and outside conventional spaces. Our projects aim to transform public spaces through sustainable, imaginative and creative commissions by leading contemporary artists.

EMP Projects objectives are to:

  • Projects are broadly divided between the following themes: Art and Education, Art and Health, Art and Regeneration, Art and Social Engagement, and Art for All.

  • Engage local communities in the process of creating exceptional art in the public realm.

  • Create opportunities for established and emerging artists – across disciplines to work creatively in the public realm.

  • Further interdisciplinary dialogues among artists, commissioners and other professionals working in the public realm, through critical reflection, discourse and debate.

  • Engender collaborative partnerships and seek ways to add value to regeneration programmes through the incorporation of social inclusion through the arts.

  • Create a greater awareness of contemporary art practice in the public realm through artists- in residencies, publications, lectures and social engagement.

Approach

EMP Projects’ approach is based on mutual collaboration. Each project, commission, or research activity is based on a collective and cooperative gathering of professional people who above all are passionate about art, design, architecture and social engagement.

Services include:

  • Planning the production and presentation of contemporary art projects in the public realm.

  • Artistic direction on urban and rural regeneration schemes, master planning, and social, retail and cultural developments.

  • Identify artists and artist collectives on a project by project basis based on the context of their practice and their suitability to each commission.

  • Establishing and managing project budgets.

  • Writing public art strategies and advising on planning policy.

  • Drafting of brief to artists and background of artistic production.

  • Producing press and PR material as well as interpretive material including associated publications and digital media.

  • Securing capital funding, and sponsorship from a variety of sources.

  • Engaging with galleries, academic institutions, architects, developers and local authorities in the delivery of contemporary art in the public realm.
